On-Campus Education |
Otter Creek Academy is a part of the Wayne County Schools, staffed with four content certified teachers. They offer the four core classes and two elective classes each day of a 210 day school year. Individualized graduation/learning plans (ILP’s) are incorporated, to ensure each student is prepared for graduation and subsequent work/college.
OCA works diligently to improve basic skills in reading and math, plus supplement students’ state academic requirements with electives such as computer applications, foods, and life skills. The on-line curriculum program (Novel Star) allows for credit recovery and is incorporated with individualized teacher assistance and educational augmentations such as group work, hands-on activities, field trips, technology usage, standardized testing, speakers, etc. OCA has excellent success with academic improvement, thus allowing students to reach their appropriate grade level, complete graduation, obtain their GED or begin college classes. Various assessments such as ACT, ASVAB and COMPASS testing opportunities are provided. Career options and transitions skills are also emphasized. |
The mission of Otter Creek Academy is to create a learning environment that encourages high expectation for success through developmentally appropriate instruction that allows for individual differences and learning styles. Our school promotes a safe, orderly and supportive environment empowering students to develop the self-confidence, attitudes, life skills and personal and career goals to successfully move into the mainstream of society.
